Only have used it in .223. CC |
Re: wolf ammo
use a ton of 7.62 X 39 as well as 12 guage. it's kind of dirty, but i've never had a problem with it.
|
Re: wolf ammo
never had any issues running it (.223) through an AR-15 or a Remington 700.
I ran about 300 rounds through my AR in one day at the range, w/o cleaning, and had no hiccups... Mine is kit built, not even a major manufacturer... |
Re: wolf ammo
Dirty - but it should be fine in your Jericho.

I was asking because a friend had a lot of problems with it in one his Taurus PT 709.. |
Re: wolf ammo
You sure your friend isn't just having problems with his Taurus? How long has he had this pistol? Taurus semis, especially older ones, are not known for being particularly reliable or robust. Their revolvers have a better reputation.

Re: wolf ammo
Never had a problem with it, but it's so dirty that I don't use much of it.
|
Re: wolf ammo
Never used their pistol ammo as I roll my own.
14,000 + rounds throught my M4 with no issues. In fact I put 2987 rounds through it without cleaning once, just kept applying grease. Also put almost 1,000 rounds down range in one day during a high round firearms course, again no issues. A little dirty, yes. But it goes bang everytime. |

I wish you would move back to the state so we could get together and shoot!!! Did you see the thread on the new Taurus 380? I have decided I will never be happy in heavy gear and am going to get a pocket gun.. Any feedback ? http://www.taurustcp.com/ |

Some people just don't like it. But to say he has problems with it ia ALL his guns ,to me, says he is the culprit of the problems. You gotta clean ur guns when using Wolf. To many reliable stories for all of a sudden one guy has a problem with every gun he owns. That dog don't hunt if you know what I mean. |

I do like a tidy gun though.. I dont like getting dirty when I shoot..Not because it's dirt but because I have visions of lead eating what few remaining brian cells I have left.. :bear_w00t: |
Re: wolf ammo
I've personally had no problems with wolf other than it's very dirty. I've only used it in 9X18 and 9X19.
While researching an SU16 I've read stories of people who do not like wolf because it gunks up the extractor and people don't normally clean the extractor on AR15 type platforms. |

That's understandable though... I only use the stuff in my sks... I wouldn't use it in my pistols or my finer rifles. I think it would only make matters worse in a Taurus... I don't hold them in very high regard to begin with. |
Re: wolf ammo
I dont like any steel cased ammo in any of my guns(wolf or other brands)....to me steel cased ammo could possibly create wear and friction issues that brass would never do possibly causing premature wear or failures, If your friend is having issues with his gun he cant resolve then it would be my thoughts he should consult a competent gunsmith for a opinion
I have used some Wolf brass cased ammo and had good results with it |

My problem is I never seem to have enough of it! . |
Re: wolf ammo
The .22 long rifle "Wolf Match Target" is the most accurate .22LF I have ever fired. I read it is made in Germany for Wolf.

I agree very accurate ammo.......does have a intresting smell when it is fired though different than any other ammo i have ever used "kinda sweet smelling" anyone know where this smell comes from? |
Re: wolf ammo
As someone else mentioned earlier stick with Russian ammo for Russian Guns. I tried some wolf 308 in my ptr-91 big mistake.
|
Re: wolf ammo
Depends on what you're shooting it in. I have an older Ruger Mini 30 that only fires Berdan-primed ammo (any brand) about 40% of the time. The firing pin doesn't strike the primer hard enough. If I wanted to pay the money for the brass-cased Boxer-primed Wolf in 7.62 x 39 (if they even make it), it would probably work fine.
In my AKs/Saigas, the Wolf goes "Bang!" every time. |
Re: wolf ammo
I've run Wolf through all my .45's from the Kimber Tactical Ultra II to the Taurus. Have 5 900 rd sardine cans somewhere out in the yard, can't recall right now.
While I do reload most of my brass .45 for normal use, I keep the Wolf for when it get's real tough. I even know a shooter who reloads his wolf cases with 5 grains of Bullseye and SWC lead cast bullets. And he runs them through a very expensive 1911 that he shoots bowling pins with. Hasn't has a problem yet with the cases. Five years and 5,000 rounds from now you won't be so fussy about that baby eagle. Look it is a lot in your head. If you aren't comfortable with any ammo don't use it. You need to believe in the tools you are working with to be effective. |
Re: wolf ammo
Great practice ammo, has never FTF in any of my firearms. Clean thoroughly afterwards, no problem.

Re: wolf ammo
Some Wolf and Sellier and Bellot ammo is loaded for European standard guns as well. Example, the 8x57 comes in S and JS the JS is a VERY hot round compared to the S. (the ones used by Germany in WW2) US manufacturers only manufacture the S and sell it as 8mm Mauser (8x57) so the older Gewehr Kommisar 88 dont blow up in your face. The 9mm lugar is also loaded a bit hotter in the Wolf brand,Its designed for modern weapons from P-38 Walther to the present, while for lawsuit purposes, US manufacturers NEVER load standard 9mm in anything hotter than a WW1 P-08 Luger can digest. just a thought (Wolf 9mm is actually +P)

As for Wolf ammo, only in the SKS, which is what the ammo was originally made for, before the AK came along. I'm not a big fan of either rifle or the ammo, but that's just me, many love 'em. |
Re: wolf ammo
It's just dirty ammo. So you save money on it, and you have to clean more. Well hells bells, the best part about having a GREAT time shooting is the cleaning. The biggest issue is between gas versus piston driven rifles. With a gas driven AR-15 you'll get more issues than a piston driven one, none of which I consider is a problem. Just my 2 cents.
EDIT - This not what I would use to break in a rifle with. After 500 rounds of decent ammo, I'll rock the crap out of it. |
